Dhaka, 11 August 2026: The official website of the Prof. Md. Ali Nawab International Centenary Conference-2026 (MANICC2026) was formally launched today by Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic), University of Dhaka (DU), at a ceremony held at the Pro-Vice-Chancellor’s Office.


The website, www.manicc2026.du.ac.bd, will provide information on the conference, including the scientific programme, invited speakers, abstract submission, registration, and important dates. The conference is being organized by the Department of Chemistry, DU, to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Professor Md. Ali Nawab, a distinguished chemist, teacher, and academic. It will be held on 26 November 2026 at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, DU, under the theme “Advances in Surface Chemistry & Colloidal Science.”
The conference will bring together distinguished scientists, academics, researchers, and students from Bangladesh and abroad, with speakers, discussants, and participants expected from the USA, Europe, India, Nepal, and Iraq, along with leading scientists and academics from Bangladesh.
A special feature of the centenary programme will be the participation of Professor Nawab’s former students and associates. Among them are Dr. Abed Chaudhury, a distinguished Bangladeshi-Australian geneticist and agricultural scientist, and Professor Emeritus Tajmeri S. A. Islam, a distinguished physical chemist and former Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry, and Dean of the Faculty of Science, DU. Professor Emeritus Tajmeri S. A. Islam will share a life sketch and her memories of Professor Nawab, highlighting his personality, teaching, mentorship, and contributions to the field of chemistry and scientific education.
The conference will also bring together members of Professor Nawab’s family, relatives, former students, colleagues, and admirers from around the world. The family of Professor Md. Ali Nawab is sponsoring the centenary conference, adding a special personal dimension to this important occasion.
The website-launching ceremony was attended by Professor Dr. Farida Begum, Conference Chair; Professor Dr. Md. Emran Quayum, Conference Secretary; Professor Dr. Hosne Ara Begum, Treasurer; and Professor Dr. Md. Mominul Islam, Convener of the Scientific Committee. Members of the Conference Organizing Committee and Scientific Committee, along with faculty members of the Department of Chemistry, including Professor Dr. Abdul Jabbar, Professor Dr. Md. Abu Bin Hasan Susan, Professor Dr. G. M. Golzar Hossain, and Mr. Md. Omar Shah Rafi, were also present.
The centenary conference will provide an opportunity to celebrate Professor Nawab’s scientific contributions, teaching, mentorship, and lasting influence on generations of students and researchers. It is expected to be a memorable gathering that combines a strong scientific programme with a tribute to the life and legacy of a respected teacher and scholar.
